Kinetic Flyte is back as Mahindra Kinetic Flyte!

Yes, months after Mahindra and Mahindra bought over Kinetic, the dealerships have started selling the scooters once again. To start with, Mahindra will start selling the Kinetic Flyte first, followed by other models.

The scooter remains unchanged - looks wise or engine wise. The pricing too remains unchanged - however with Mahindra now as the parent company, we can expect better after sales service and spares..

In the meantime, check out their new website at www.mahindra2wheelers.com

Kinetic Flyte : Features

Here is the official press release from Kinetic:

It gives us great pleasure to introduce the first two-wheeler from the Kinetic-Sym association – the Kinetic SYM Flyte. We believe that Flyte takes the scooter segment in India several steps forward in terms of technology, features, performance, quality and overall riding experience; and we are confident you will agree.

Flyte is based on the Sym X'Pro – Sym's current International bestseller across 62 countries. X'Pre was selected as the first product for launch from Sym's formidable range after exhaustive market research. It brings modern styling and globally up-to-date technology to the scooter/ette segment of India. Flyte has 15 per cent import content, and quality has been benchmarked against international standards with each part having been tested for maximumperformance.
Flyte will be targeted at the fastest growing two-wheeler profile – women, especially the younger women – students or executives. The positioning for the Flyte is 'Ride the Change' and the marketing communications would speak to the modern, confident and ambitious women. Leading actress Bipasha Basu has been selected as the brand ambassador for the Flyte. Flyte brings new technology and several breakthrough convenience features to this segment
-Globally contemporary design with sleek and smart style
-Zippy ride with a 125cc 8 bhp engine and a top speed of 80 kph
-Secondary air injection system for minimuzing polluting emissions
-Quick'n'easy front fueling system with popup lead (not underseat, so do not have to alight from scooter for fueling) [useful, but looks scary in operation. Think jack in the box]
-Large and brightly lit 2-level, 22-litre storage undersead
-4-in-1 magnetic antitheft key that starts engine, operates fuel lock, handle lock and prevents theft
-Front telescopic suspension [current imported, made from aluminium alloy, more travel than competition and slightly thicker in dia as well]
-9Ah efficient and maintenance-free battery for instant start [competition offers 5Ah, I'm told]
-130 mm drums
-3.5" tyres [Zapper pattern tyres]
-Mobile chargepoint
-Comprehensive 3-year warranty
-1260mm wheelbase for extra stability
-Impact resistant mirrors

More features:

Front telescopic suspension - This helps in absorbing road bumps, unlike other scoots, which dont come with telescopic suspension up front

Huge and brightly lit 2 level, 22 liters underseat storage

4-in-1 anti-theft magnetic key that starts the engine, operates the fuel lock, handle lock and prevents theft

Quick n easy front fueling system with a pop-up fuel lid (not underseat, so do not have to alight from the scooter for fueling)

Perfect ergonomics with a wide and comfortable seat

Kinetic Flyte : Technical Specifications and performance figures

The Flyte comes with a 125cc four-stroke engine, which pumps out 8PS of power and 9Nm of torque. With a weight of 105kgs, the power to weight ratio is quite good. But surprisingly, it doesnt perform too well. The scoot manages a true top speed of only 83.8km/h (90km/h on the speedometer) and takes 13secs to hit 60km/h from standstill. This compares quite badly with say the Honda Activa, which even with a smaller 100cc engine manages a true top speed of 79.1km/h and takes just 11.1 secs to hit 60km/h.

Fuel economy wise, the Flyte goes 38kms to a litre in city and 50 on the highway. This is again on the lower side. BUT, finally the pricing. The FLYTE sells for Rs 41,600 OTR in Pune as compared to the Activa, which sells for Rs 43,000!! This is fabulous pricing from Kinetic. Plus it comes loaded with lotsa features...

Kinetic Flyte 125 : How?

Kinetic has long been known for manufacturing ungeared scooters in India. First it was with Honda and then alone. The company tried to venture out into the motorcycle segment, but to be true, their geared products failed badly, like the Velocity and the Stryker.

Anyways thats the past. Kinetic tied with SYM motors sometime back, and the FLYTE is the first baby of this marriage. And they roped in bombshell Bipasha Basu to do the honours of being the brand ambassador. Fabulous!
